This is an “exceptional” collection of Ravel’s piano works for the TOCCATA label, which actively records unusual repertoire. Of course, this is no ordinary collection of Ravel’s works, but the piano version of the “Daphnis et Chloe” suite is the centerpiece of the album. Although Ravel himself wrote a piano version of this piece, here the Lithuanian pianist Petrauskaite himself has arranged the piece into a 40-minute suite. The arrangement respects the original score, allowing the entire piece to be performed without multiple recordings, while preserving Ravel’s distinctive colorful sound. The other well-known works are also in fine form.Naxos Japan
