A collection of works, including Elgar’s cello, performed by cellist Marie-Elisabeth Hecker, born in Zwickau, Germany. Previously, the ALPHA label has released Schubert’s Piano Trio/Arpeggione Sonata and Brahms’ Cello Sonata. Pianist Helmchen, with whom he performed brilliantly together in these two works, also plays well together in this “Piano Quintet”. The other players are also noteworthy. The violinist Caroline Wittmann and the rest of the ensemble are all outstanding. In the cello concerto, the main piece, they are accompanied by the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ed de Waart, and their performance is full of breathtaking tension.Naxos Japan
