Davy Villeguez, who has become one of the leading jazz composers and pianists of our time with albums on such prestigious jazz labels as Justin Time and ECM, has reexamined the traditional music of his native Cuba to create this album of 100% Cuban music. The first half of the album features musicians from his hometown of Santiago de Cuba, playing a variety of classic songs from the region with full brass bands to trios. The second half of the album features the famous compositions of Antonio Maria Romes, a famous composer from Dunsoon, performed only with guiro and his own piano.
