[The first symphony, Beethoven’s first symphony, was completed at the age of 30, and the ambitious second symphony, which aimed to break away from the conventional style and greatly expanded the range of expression compared to the previous symphony. This is one of Abbado’s second Beethoven symphony cycle completed at the end of the 20th century with the Berlin Philharmonic, his army at that time. Abbado’s interpretation of the Bärenreiler edition, which incorporates the latest research findings, is a novel interpretation that foreshadows Beethoven performances of the 21st century.
