Shostakovich is one of the greatest composers of the 20th century. While writing serious symphonies and string quartets, he also wrote many light works such as ballet music and jazz suites, both of which are highly popular. This album is a collection of “light” Shostakovich works, including a dance-like “Jazz Suite,” music from the amusing ballet “The Golden Age,” which describes the intrigue surrounding the invitation of a soccer club, and a piano concerto with a jazz twist, all performed by Griffiths and the Frankfurt Brandenburg The piano concerto was performed by the Frankfurt-Brandenburg State Orchestra. In the piano concerto, Leroux’s trumpet accompanies the virtuosic piano of Balishevsky, who was born in 1988. [Conductor: Howard Griffiths, Orchestra: Frankfurt-Brandenburg State Orchestra, Piano: Antony Balishevsky, Trumpet: Romain Leroux
