Description

≪The “Kaddish” is a large-scale composition with a full orchestra, chorus, boys’ chorus, soprano solo voice, and narrator. It is a magnificent work that is the culmination not only of Bernstein as a composer, but also of Bernstein as a thinker. Yutaka Sado is a master of this work and has been highly acclaimed as a guest conductor with major orchestras in Europe and the United States. This recording is a live concert at the Musikvereinsaal in Vienna, where Bernstein often took the podium. This is the world premiere recording with a German translation of the text, and it conveys the magnificent music that resonated in the “Golden Hall” and the deep emotion of the audience. The coupling piece, “Serenade,” is a sound depiction of ancient Greek philosophy, and Sayaka Shoji’s intelligent approach supported by her superb technique is the best fit for this work. (C)RS
