:

[The first piece directly conveys the composer’s longing, anxiety, and melancholy in the midst of his youth. Composed out of longing for his first love, No. 2 recalls the days of his youth. Chopin’s piano concertos are performed by Ashkenazy: No. 2, which he recorded at the age of 27 with Zinman conducting, and No. 1, which he conducted himself at the age of 60, and which was surprisingly recorded for the first time. The recordings include the youthful interpretation that reveals the breath of youthful youth and the mature performance that has increased the depth of expression.
