Mezzo-soprano Mutsumi Hatano and composer/pianist Yuji Takahashi perform Schubert’s “Winterreise” on CD, which has been performed in concert since January 2016 and is scheduled to be performed annually. The depth of the lyrics, melodic line, and piano accompaniment, which reveal a strong will at the bottom of the darkness, have attracted many singers to this piece. Although this work was written for male voices, it has been performed by female singers in many famous performances.
