This is the first recording by the Metropolitan Opera on the Decca label and Pavarotti’s first full-length recording of “Manon Lescaut”. Under the baton of Levine, Pavarotti performs the role of De Groot with great skill, surrounded by such famous singers as Frényi, Croft, and Vargas. The young Bartoli also participates. The lyrics are not accompanied by a bilingual translation. (C)RS
