The pacifist Britten composed this masterpiece in memory of all the dead of World War II and in prayer for eternal peace. It is a requiem of great hope with three solo singers, a mixed chorus, a boys’ chorus, and two orchestras, and uses the Mass Ordinal and poems by Owen, the war poet. (C)RS
