The first album in cpo’s new series “Works by Jewish Composers in Exile” is a cello concerto by Hans Gall and Castelnuovo-Tedesco. The parents of Wolfish, who is performing, were also Holocaust survivors who fled to England, and Wolfish, who knows the turbulent lives of his parents, sees the issue as something so close to home that he cannot avoid it. His parents knew Goldschmidt and Hans Gall when they were in England, and Tedesco was the composer who wrote the cello concerto for Wolfish’s teacher, Piatigorsky. Tedesco’s work is a world premiere. This is the world premiere recording of Tedesco’s work.Naxos Japan
