England is known for its choral music, of which part songs (choral works sung by small ensembles) are highly popular among both professionals and amateurs. Composers also contributed to the expansion of the repertoire, and many part songs were created during the 19th and 20th centuries. Among them, the works of Dilius and Bax are known as the most coveted pieces for choral singers, with their beautiful harmonies and complex ensembles. Although Dilius’s early work, “Six Part Songs,” is strongly influenced by Schumann and Mendelssohn, the works written in the 20th century are unique and original.
