Toshiro Mayuzumi is one of the most famous Japanese composers of the 20th century. He was one of the leaders of the postwar Japanese music world, along with Toru Takemitsu, and also made a mark in the field of film music, and trained his successors as a lecturer of composition at the Tokyo University of the Arts. He is also known for his longtime work as a TV music program host and his efforts to popularize classical music. This album contains three pieces: “Feast,” an early experimental piece that makes full use of various instruments; “Phonology Sanphonic,” which pursues the sound of temple bells; and “Samsara,” a piece that could be called a “dance music. Includes commentary.
