It is currently impossible to determine the exact date when the “First Symphony” was written in Denmark. The reason for this is that the fire at Christiansborg Castle in 1794 destroyed much of the archival material, including the musical score that was played at the royal court at the time. The two composers on this album, Geertson and Kunzen, were both from Denmark, Geertson studied in Hamburg, and Kunzen studied in Berlin and Frankfurt, and they are known for having introduced the Viennese classical style to Denmark. They are also known for introducing the Viennese classical style to Denmark. Mortensen continues his painstaking search for and performance of these forgotten works. This disc explores the history of the Danish symphony.
