Commemorating the 200th anniversary of Chopin’s birth. A brilliant collection of monaural recordings of Chopin’s masterpieces from Rubinstein’s heyday. He had a special affection for Chopin, a composer from his native Poland, and throughout his life, his interpretation of Chopin established his own trademark reputation as “Rubinstein when it comes to Chopin. The recordings from the stereo period in particular have established themselves as definitive recordings, but the recordings from the monaural period (including some stereo recordings from the late 1950s), which will be released in a box set for the first time in Japan, are the most complete in terms of both spirit and technique. The monaural recordings (including some stereo recordings from the late 1950s), which are being released in this boxed set for the first time in Japan, allow us to enjoy to the full Rubinstein’s dashing fingerwork and brilliant piano tone at a time when he was at the peak of his physical and mental maturity. The great appeal of these recordings is that they are different from the “richness of taste” heard in the stereo recordings, but rather they exude an overwhelming sense of vigor and brilliance.
