Description
The Cenobites brought together the visionary pairing of Kool Keith and producer Godfather Don for a raw, boundary-pushing collaboration that reshaped underground hip-hop in the 1990s. Emerging from Brooklyn and first released on Bobbito Garcia’s Fondle ’Em Records, the project began as an EP in 1995 before expanding into a full-length two years later, later gaining an additional track in 2000.
The album is defined by Kool Keith’s high-pitched, experimental flow—sometimes credited to his Rhythm X alias—and Godfather Don’s distinctive production, where heavy horn samples and pounding drums twist into hypnotic, jazz-laced rhythms. Abstract lyricism, surreal sci-fi imagery, and an uncompromising sound helped make the record a touchstone for indie rap fans.
This definitive edition gathers the complete set of recordings alongside rare demos and bonus cuts, offering the fullest picture yet of this cult classic.
