This is the second release in the “Sony Classical Masterpieces Collection 1000”. In 1950, the bicentennial of Bach’s death, a group of musicians gathered in Prades, France, to celebrate the world-famous cellist Pablo Casals, who had been living in seclusion at the time. Casals, who had been living in seclusion at the time, resumed his musical activities. This album is a recording of Bach’s cello sonatas performed with Paul Baumgartner on piano. The album contains profound and free performances by Casals, who regarded Bach as his “best friend.
