Mint Julep, the electric shoegaze unit of Keith Kenniff (Helios/Goldmund) and his wife Hollie Kenniff, has been releasing their first album, “Mint Julep,” which contains all the glimmers of 90s shoegaze pop. Mint Julep’s sound has evolved from the electro shoegaze of the past, but with Keith’s experience with Goldmund and Helios added to fine-tune the sound. The songwriting approach, which focuses on the mood and texture of the song, is a change from the lyrics and choruses of the previous album, as seen in the opening track “A Rising Sun,” which features a gentle analog drum beat and shimmering acoustic guitar, vocals, guitar leads, and snare drum sounds. leads, and snare drum sounds into impressionistic pop music. It’s a textural layer of sound-designed analog synth/transparent vocals. Mint Julep is a doorway to a romantic parallel world filled with Keith’s memories of his wife.
