:
The album was nominated for Best Choral Performance at the 1983 Grammy Awards. Leonard Slatkin is one of the leading conductors of our time, having served as music director of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra from 1979 to 1996, and later as music director of the Washington National Symphony Orchestra and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. During Slatkin’s time at the helm, the St. Louis Symphony was highly regarded as a threat to the Big Five (New York Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston Symphony, and Chicago Symphony) in the American orchestra rankings, and the collection of Rachmaninoff’s symphonies and orchestral works he left for Vox, The Rachmaninoff symphonies and orchestral works he has recorded for Vox have won him a large following among classical music fans as a correct interpreter of Rachmaninoff’s music. The recording by Obor & Nicklentz of Elite Recordings is also highly accomplished here.Naxos Japan
