This is a disc from the Dvorak Zycles by master Czech conductor Ilzy Bělohlávek and the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, which he has led as principal conductor since 2012. This is the second of two consecutive monthly releases, following “Stabat Mater” (UCCD-1446/7), which was released on July 26, 2017 as a commemorative disc for his visit to Japan. The “Slavonic Dances” are known as the foundation of Dvořák’s later great success, in which Dvořák, himself a Slav, expressed as his own songs the unique ethnic rhythms he had acquired through the nature of his native Czech Republic and his ethnic Slavic sensibilities. This is one of Dvořák’s most famous works, interpreted with sincerity by Bělohlávek and richly played with the mellow sound of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. This is a performance that sets the standard for the future of Dvořák’s works. Recordings: December 17-21, 2014 (Op. 46), October 1-2, 2015 (Op. 72), Dvorak Hall, Rudolfinum, Prague
