This is the solo debut album (1966) of Jim Kweskin, the leader of Jim Kweskin & The Jug Band, the premier white jug band. This memorable solo album was released shortly after the release of his two classic albums as Jim Kweskin & The Jug Band, and features warm recordings reminiscent of the “coffeehouse” culture of the 1960s. The album features Fritz Richmond on washtub bass, a member of his own The Jug Band, and Mel Lyman on harmonica, also a member of The Jug Band. The album focuses on traditional numbers, and as the album’s title, Red Berry Cover, suggests, it is a “soothing and relaxing recording. The album also includes two live performances at Club 47, a coffeehouse in Kenbrich, widely known as the birthplace of the American folk revival of the 1960s, along with Greenwich Village. Highlights of the album include a Mississippi John Hurt cover of “My Creole Belle” and, of course, the Redbelly cover of “Relax Your Mind.Commentary: SUZUKI Katsu.VIVID SOUND
