Description
Before and alongside his work as a sideman with Blue Note organ greats Baby Face Willette and Big John Patton, Fred Jackson stepped forward with his own statement on Hootin’ ‘N Tootin’. The album captures Jackson’s brawny, blues-soaked tenor style in a tight, groove-heavy setting, backed by a crack band featuring organist Earl Van Dyke, guitarist Willie Jones and drummer Wilbert Hogan. Rooted in soul-jazz and hard bop, the session balances raw drive with relaxed swing, spotlighting Jackson as a commanding lead voice while keeping the focus squarely on feel, interplay and momentum.
