Fritz Wunderlich sings a collection of classical vocal pieces and arias. The aria from Schubert’s opera “Fierabras” and two arias from the opera “Alfonso and Estrella” are previously unreleased recordings, and here we have another valuable album of Wunderlich’s charm. Tamino’s aria from Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” marks the beginning and end of Wunderlich’s short but productive career of only 13 years, and is an important work, having been sung on July 21, 1954, when he was a student, and on September 5, 1966. The 1959 performance is included here. Rare Schubert works are also actively featured, helping to raise awareness of the beauty and importance of these arias. Haydn’s “The Creation” was Wunderlich’s specialty repertoire, and his dramatic singing is a treat to the ear. digitally remastered from the original tapes in the SWR collection.Naxos Japan
