Live recording of the concert held on the first day of the Proms in 1943. In a relaxed atmosphere, the famous pieces are played one after another. Unfortunately, the recording of the concert is not complete, and some movements and pieces are missing, but this does not detract from the overall atmosphere of the concert. The highlight of the evening is the first and third movements of Saint-Saens’ “Piano Concerto No. 2,” performed by the virtuoso Maura Limpany. It is a real shame that it is not the entire piece. Other pieces performed include the first movement of “Fate” and Tchaikovsky’s Suite No. 3.
