Cornelius Meister has been the principal conductor of the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra since 2010. The work on this album is Dvořák’s “The Ghost Bride,” a rarely performed cantata composed in 1884, which is set to a libretto by the Czech poet Jaromír Erben. The work was performed in the UK at the time of his visit to the UK. Recorded in 2016, this mid-period masterpiece shows Dvořák at the height of his powers of composition after his well-received visit to the U.K., where he became a leading Czech composer.
